Welcome

The Mahajan Lab’s primary research focus centers on the intricate relationship between spinal neural modulation and cardiac electrophysiology. Our research delves deeply into understanding how spinal neural activity can influence heart rhythms and overall cardiac function, a critical area of study with far-reaching implications for treating various cardiac conditions. We are particularly dedicated to assessing cardiac function in the context of heart failure, myocardial ischemia, and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, aiming to uncover new insights that can lead to the development of novel therapeutic approaches.

Our research encompasses a broad spectrum of methodologies; by investigating the neural mechanisms that affect cardiac function, we hope to identify key pathways that could be targeted to improve heart health and patient outcomes.

Located within the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, our lab benefits from a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. This allows us to integrate knowledge and techniques from various fields, fostering innovation and accelerating the pace of discovery. We work closely with clinicians, other researchers, and industry partners to translate our findings from bench to bedside, ensuring that our research has a tangible impact on patient care.

At the Mahajan Lab, we are committed to advancing neurocardiology and cardiac neuromodulation therapy through rigorous scientific inquiry and a dedication to improving the lives of those affected by heart disease. Our team is passionate about pushing the boundaries of what is known and exploring new frontiers in the quest to better understand and treat cardiac dysfunction.
